Transforming Kowloon Micro Flats Into Living Masterpieces

At Compact Living Design Limited, we’re redefining how people live in Hong Kong’s smallest spaces. We’ve spent years mastering the art of spatial design, and now we’re teaching others to do the same.

Our Origin

Where It All Started

We didn’t set out to teach interior design courses. We started by solving our own problem.

Back in 2019, the founder of Compact Living Design Limited was living in a 350-square-foot Kowloon flat. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was affordable. The challenge? Making it feel like an actual home instead of a storage unit.

We started experimenting. Vertical storage. Multi-functional furniture. Color psychology. Light reflection. Every inch had to work twice as hard. And honestly, it worked. We went from feeling cramped to feeling cozy.

Friends started asking how we did it. Then colleagues. Then strangers on Reddit. We realized we’d stumbled onto something valuable—a system for making micro spaces feel spacious. That’s when Compact Living Design Limited was born. We’ve been refining these techniques ever since.

What We Actually Know

We don’t just teach theory. Every course is built on real experience optimizing Hong Kong flats. Here’s what we’ve mastered.

Spatial Planning

We’ve learned how to read a room. Identifying traffic flow, natural light zones, and functional areas in spaces under 400 sq ft isn’t easy. We’ll teach you the system.

Storage Architecture

Vertical storage isn’t just a trend—it’s survival. We’ve tested dozens of solutions. Hidden compartments, wall-mounted systems, multi-purpose furniture. You’ll learn what actually works.

Light & Color Science

A room’s perception of size isn’t fixed. We use color theory, mirror placement, and lighting strategies to make 300 sq ft feel like 500. The science is proven, and we’ll teach you how to apply it.

Zone Division

Open-plan micro flats need structure without walls. We’ve perfected furniture arrangement, area rugs, and visual barriers that create distinct zones while maintaining flow.

Furniture Selection

Not all furniture is equal in a micro flat. We’ve tested scale, proportions, and functionality extensively. We know which pieces work and which ones waste precious space.

Kowloon-Specific Design

Hong Kong flats have unique constraints. High humidity, limited ceiling height, specific building codes. We don’t teach generic design—we teach solutions built for your neighborhood.

Our Method

How We Teach Interior Design

Our courses aren’t lectures. They’re systematic, practical training based on what we’ve learned from transforming over 200 micro flats across Kowloon.

1

Assessment & Analysis

We start by understanding your specific space. Every flat’s different—different light, different layout, different structural constraints. We teach you how to analyze what you’re working with.

2

Strategic Planning

Before you buy a single piece of furniture, we’ll teach you how to plan. Sketches, measurements, functional zones, traffic flow. The right plan eliminates 80% of future problems.

3

Design Implementation

Now comes the fun part. We’ll show you exactly which design techniques work for your situation. Color choices, storage solutions, furniture placement, lighting strategy.

4

Refinement & Optimization

The best designs evolve. We teach you how to evaluate what’s working, what isn’t, and how to adjust without starting over. Small tweaks create big differences.

Our Philosophy

Small Spaces, Big Living

We believe micro flats aren’t limitations—they’re opportunities. A well-designed 350 sq ft apartment can feel more livable than a poorly designed 800 sq ft one.

The people taking our courses don’t want generic advice. They want Kowloon-specific knowledge. They want to understand the why behind design decisions, not just follow a checklist.

That’s why we teach at Compact Living Design Limited. We’re not selling decorating tips. We’re teaching a skill set that transforms how people experience their homes. And honestly, watching someone walk into their newly designed micro flat and smile? That’s why we do this.

Important Information

The educational content provided by Compact Living Design Limited is designed to offer practical knowledge and techniques for interior design and small space optimization. While we’ve applied these methods extensively in real Kowloon micro flats, individual results depend on your specific space, building regulations, budget, and implementation choices. We encourage all students to adapt our teachings to their unique situations and consult with licensed contractors or architects when necessary for structural modifications or building code compliance. Our courses are informational and educational in nature and should complement, not replace, professional design consultations for complex projects.
